Signs Your Current Marketing Agency Is Wasting Your Budget (Bangladesh Business Guide)

You’re paying an agency every month. The reports come in. The language sounds impressive. But your business isn’t growing.

This is more common in Bangladesh’s digital marketing market than most business owners realize — and it’s costing businesses lakhs of taka every year in fees with zero return.

Here are 8 clear warning signs that your current agency is wasting your budget.

Sign 1: Reports Show Impressions and Reach — Not Revenue or Leads

If your monthly report leads with page likes, impressions, and “reach” — and buries or omits actual leads generated and revenue attributed — your agency is hiding behind vanity metrics.

The only metrics that matter: cost per lead, number of qualified leads, conversion rate, ROAS (return on ad spend), and revenue attributed to marketing. Everything else is decoration.

Sign 2: You Don’t Have Access to Your Own Ad Accounts

If you ask for access to your Google Ads or Facebook Ads account and the agency stalls, makes excuses, or says “we’ll send you screenshots” — this is a serious problem. Your ad accounts belong to you. Full stop.

Agencies that keep you locked out of your own accounts do so because they don’t want you to see how little is actually being done — or how poorly the campaigns are structured.

Sign 3: You’re Told “It Takes Time” for More Than 4 Months With No Data

“Digital marketing takes time” is true — but it’s not a blank check for inactivity. By month 2, you should see data trends. By month 3, you should see optimization improvements. By month 4, you should see measurable movement toward your goals.

If an agency can’t show you month-over-month improvement in at least one key metric after 4 months, the strategy isn’t working.

Sign 4: They Propose the Same Solution for Every Problem

Bad agencies have one playbook: more Facebook ads, more posts, more budget. Good agencies diagnose before prescribing. If your leads are dropping, is it the ad? The landing page? The offer? The audience? The follow-up? These require different fixes.

Sign 5: Communication Disappears Between Invoice Dates

You pay on the 1st. You hear from them on the 30th with a report. The rest of the month? Silence. This means your account is on autopilot — no active optimization, no proactive problem-solving.

Good agencies send weekly performance snapshots, proactively flag issues, and don’t wait for you to ask questions.

Sign 6: No A/B Testing Is Ever Done

If your ads look the same every month — same copy, same creative, same audience — nothing is being tested. Marketing optimization requires constant testing: different headlines, different creatives, different audiences, different landing pages. If there’s no testing, there’s no improvement.

Sign 7: They Can’t Explain What They Did This Month

Ask your agency: “What specific optimizations did you make to our campaigns this month?” A good agency gives you a specific answer: “We reduced bid on underperforming ad sets, paused 3 creatives with CTR below 0.8%, expanded the lookalike audience to 3%, and tested a new headline variant.”

A bad agency says: “We’ve been monitoring everything and making adjustments to optimize performance.”

Sign 8: Your Cost Per Lead Is Increasing Month Over Month

Some increase in CPL is expected as markets saturate. But a consistently increasing CPL over 3+ months without any change in strategy means the agency isn’t actively working to reverse the trend. An engaged agency would have changed creative, tested new audiences, or restructured campaigns long before month 3.

What to Do If You Recognize These Signs

  1. Request full admin access to all your ad accounts immediately
  2. Download all historical data before you make any changes
  3. Get a second opinion — have another agency audit your account for free
  4. Review your contract for exit clauses and notice periods
  5. Don’t cancel your ad spend during transition — pause the agency fee, keep ads running if they’re generating any returns
